I am back from vacation now, with tons of wares from Scotland, London, and Switzerland in tow. I am also severely jet lagged after staying up for 21 hours. The trip was amazing and photos are on the way. In the meantime, here are a few things I learned:
1. Sheep lungs, heart, stomach and oatmeal taste much better than you’d imagine when prepared in just the right fashion.
2. European air travel puts most US airlines to shame. And European city public transportation is pretty great too.
3. With the weakness of the dollar and the cost of the UK and some EU countries, America, even New York City, seems pretty darn affordable.
4. Living in America, and especially Manhattan, spoils you in regard to places staying open late.
5. Chocolate in Europe tastes really good. Really good.
6. No matter how traveller savvy you are, Swiss-German is really hard to understand.
7. My parents are incredibly spry for their age. My dad beat me to the top of the highest peak in Edinburgh and my mom made it up 2/3 of the mountain in clogs.
8. Lederhosen is always funny and never gets old.
9. Some countries not only overdub movies but also take popular songs and re-dub the vocals into their language. Which means now you can not understand Souljah Boy’s lyrics in even more languages.
10. Travel is a blessing and a privilege and if anyone has the chance, they should experience it. It offers you great perspective on your own country and culture and is a valuable experience for learning about your world and your own life. Also, McDonald’s is the constant of the earth.
